Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection is the dominant approach for peptide purity assessment, usually paired with mass spectrometry to confirm molecular mass and sequence. Peptide mapping by enzymatic digestion and tandem mass spectrometry locates modifications such as deamidation and oxidation. Quantitation in plasma matrices can be performed by LC-MS/MS after solid-phase extraction. Method validation follows general guidance on accuracy, precision, linearity, and limits of detection. Comparability of results between laboratories, when no shared reference standard is available, remains an open question.
Stability studies focus on deamidation of asparagine and glutamine residues, oxidation of methionine, and aggregation into higher-order species. The fatty acid side chain adds susceptibility to oxidative change and can promote self-association at high concentration. Lyophilised material is comparatively robust when kept cold and dry, while aqueous solutions require refrigeration and protection from light. Forced degradation experiments under heat, acid, base, and peroxide conditions establish the specificity of each analytical method. Which degradation route dominates under real storage conditions depends on the formulation and stays formulation-specific.
Semaglutide is a synthetic peptide that acts as an agonist at the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor. It is a structural analogue of human GLP-1(7-37), modified to resist enzymatic degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase-4. The peptide backbone contains alpha-aminoisobutyric acid at position 8, a substitution that stabilises the helix and slows cleavage. A fatty diacid side chain attached through a linker at lysine 34 promotes binding to serum albumin, which extends the circulating half-life. These two modifications together allow less frequent administration than native GLP-1 requires.
Activation of the GLP-1 receptor couples to Gs signalling and raises intracellular cyclic AMP in pancreatic beta cells. The resulting insulin release depends on prevailing glucose concentrations, so the effect is greater when glucose is elevated. Receptor engagement also suppresses glucagon secretion and slows gastric emptying, which flattens post-meal glucose excursions. In the central nervous system, signalling in hypothalamic and brainstem regions is associated with reduced appetite and lower energy intake. Studies continue to examine effects on cardiac, renal and hepatic endpoints; whether those benefits are independent of weight change remains an open question.

Storage conditions for semaglutide depend heavily on the presentation. Lyophilized research powder is generally kept at two to eight degrees Celsius in a sealed container, protected from light and moisture. Manufacturer labeling for finished injectable products specifies refrigeration before first use, with defined in-use periods at room temperature afterward. The oral tablet form is stored at controlled room temperature and is more tolerant of short excursions. Temperature excursions should be documented rather than inferred.
Peptide degradation follows several routes. Hydrolysis cleaves the backbone at susceptible residues, oxidation targets methionine and tryptophan side chains, and aggregation produces higher-molecular-weight species that are difficult to reverse. Light exposure accelerates oxidation, which is why amber glass or opaque secondary packaging is common. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles promote aggregation and are best avoided. Stability-indicating methods detect these changes before they become visible.
Semaglutide is a synthetic peptide analog of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone released from intestinal L-cells after food intake. The compound belongs to the incretin mimetic class and acts at GLP-1 receptors distributed across pancreatic, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and central nervous system tissues. Compared with native GLP-1, the molecule carries structural changes that extend its activity from minutes to roughly one week. It is studied for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes and for weight management, and its effects on cardiovascular and other outcomes remain active research areas.
Receptor binding triggers G protein signaling that raises intracellular cyclic AMP in pancreatic beta cells. Insulin release follows in a glucose-dependent manner, so secretion increases when blood glucose is elevated and diminishes when it is not. The same signaling suppresses glucagon release from alpha cells and slows gastric emptying, which blunts the post-meal glucose rise. In the brain, receptor activation in regions such as the arcuate nucleus is associated with reduced appetite and lower energy intake. How much each of these effects contributes to overall weight change is not fully settled.
Einstein's parent institution, Montefiore Health System, is a private non-profit healthcare system and one of the largest employers in New York. It comprises 15 member hospitals, including Montefiore Einstein Medical Center and Children's Hospital at Montefiore, and has the busiest emergency room in New York City and the ninth busiest in the United States. The system was founded in 1884 and is named for Moses Montefiore, a British financier and the Sheriff of London. Einstein first became affiliated with Montefiore in 1963, with Montefiore attending physicians serving as Einstein faculty. By 1969, financial troubles led Yeshiva University to contract its Jack D. Weiler Hospital to the Montefiore Medical Center. In 1980, the college's Department of Medicine merged with Montefiore. In the 2010s, Yeshiva University's mounting financial troubles—caused in part by Einstein's high operational costs and a $110 million loss to Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme in 2008—led the university to transfer ownership of the medical school to Montefiore in 2015. Although the deal's details were largely kept private, Einstein became a new entity with 51 percent ownership by Montefiore and 49 percent by Yeshiva. Montefiore assumed all operational and financial responsibilities. Yeshiva continued to grant Einstein's degrees until 2019, when the medical school achieved independent degree-granting authority. In 2021, Yeshiva and Montefiore launched a joint BA/BS-MD program for students entering Yeshiva.
== Medical uses == Lebrikizumab is indicated for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in adults and adolescents aged twelve years of age and older with a body weight of at least 40 kilograms (88 lb) who are candidates for systemic therapy.
Octopuses appear in mythology as sea monsters such as the kraken of Norway and the Akkorokamui of the Ainu, and possibly the Gorgons of ancient Greece. A battle with an octopus appears in Victor Hugo's book Toilers of the Sea. Octopuses appear in Japanese shunga erotic art. They are eaten and considered a delicacy by humans in many parts of the world, especially the Mediterranean and Asia.

=== Motion sickness === Meclizine is effective in inhibiting nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. The drug is safe for treating nausea in pregnancy and is a first-line therapy for this use. Meclizine may not be strong enough for especially sickening motion stimuli, and second-line defenses should be tried in those cases.
The main etiologic factor of ACC is unknown, although families with Li–Fraumeni syndrome, caused by an inherited inactivation mutation in TP53, have increased risk. Several genes have been shown to be recurrently mutated, including TP53, CTNNB1, MEN1, PRKAR1A, RPL22, and DAXX. The telomerase gene TERT is often amplified while ZNRF3 and CDKN2A are often homozygously deleted. The genes h19, insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II), and p57kip2 are important for fetal growth and development. They are located on chromosome 11p. Expression of the h19 gene is markedly reduced in both nonfunctioning and functioning adrenal cortical carcinomas, especially in tumors producing cortisol and aldosterone. Also, a loss occurs of activity of the p57kip2 gene product in virilizing adenomas and adrenal cortical carcinomas. In contrast, IGF-II gene expression has been shown to be high in adrenal cortical carcinomas. Finally, c-myc gene expression is relatively high in neoplasms, and it is often linked to poor prognosis. Bilateral adrenocortical tumors are less common than unilateral. The majority of bilateral tumours can be distinguished according to size and aspect of the nodules: primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease, which can be sporadic or part of Carney complex, and primary bilateral macro nodular adrenal hyperplasia.Metastasis is most commonly to the liver and lung.
Plenty of radioactive ruthenium-103, ruthenium-106, and stable ruthenium are formed by the fission process. The ruthenium in PUREX raffinate can become oxidized to form volatile ruthenium tetroxide which forms a purple vapour above the surface of the aqueous liquor. The ruthenium tetroxide is very similar to osmium tetroxide; the ruthenium compound is a stronger oxidant which enables it to form deposits by reacting with other substances. In this way the ruthenium in a reprocessing plant is very mobile, difficult to stabilize, and can be found in odd places. It has been called extremely troublesome and has a notorious reputation as an especially difficult product to handle during reprocessing. Voloxidation combined with cold trap collection of the flue gases could recover the volatile ruthenium tetroxide before it can become a nuisance in further processing. After the radioactive isotopes have had time to decay, recovered ruthenium could be sold at its relatively high market value. In addition, the ruthenium in PUREX raffinate forms a large number of nitrosyl complexes which makes the chemistry of the ruthenium very complex. The ligand exchange rate at ruthenium and rhodium tends to be long, hence it can take a long time for a ruthenium or rhodium compound to react. At Chernobyl, during the fire, the ruthenium became volatile and behaved differently from many of the other metallic fission products. Some of the particles which were emitted by the fire were very rich in ruthenium.

=== Accusations of falsification and manipulation === According to Minakowski, pro-Polish activists decided to boycott the preparations for electoral commissions before the plebiscite to protest the unequal treatment of the Polish and German side and pro-German terror, which allowed German officials to falsify lists with eligible voters by adding names of dead or ineligible people. During the plebiscite, Germans transported pro-German voters to numerous locations, which allowed them to cast multiple votes. In Allenstein (Olsztyn), cards with pro-Polish votes were simply taken away by a German official, who declared that they were "invalid" and presented voters with pro-German cards. Voters were observed by the German police in polling stations. Pro-Polish voting cards were often hidden or taken away, and Polish controllers were removed from polling stations. A large number of Poles feared reprisals and did not turn out for the plebiscite.
=== Jcom radio libel case === In November 2007, Jewish radio station Jcom aired a satirical segment in which a character named 'Georgie Galloway' used the anti-Semitic catchphrase "kill the Jews, kill the Jews". Galloway sued the station for libel and won the case in the High Court. Galloway was awarded £15,000 in damages and around £5,000 in costs. The radio station closed after losing the case. Galloway said the judgment had "categorically crushed the slur of anti-Semitism" against him.
=== Edible insects for industrialized mass production === To increase consumer interest in Western markets such as Europe and North America, insects have been processed into a non‐recognizable form, such as powders or flour. Policymakers, academics, as well as large-scale insect food producers such as Entomofarms in Canada, Aspire Food Group in the United States, Protifarm and Protix in the Netherlands, and Bühler Group in Switzerland, focus on seven insect species suitable for human consumption as well as industrialized mass production:

Purity is commonly expressed as the percentage of the main peak relative to all integrated peaks in a reversed-phase chromatogram. Related substances and counter-ions are reported separately. Values obtained with different detectors are not always directly comparable.
Aggregation is driven by hydrophobic contacts, especially those involving the fatty acid side chain, and is accelerated by heat, agitation, and repeated freezing and thawing. Low pH and suitable excipients can reduce the rate. The tendency differs between formulations.
Dry powder has low molecular mobility and tolerates colder storage for longer periods. Water enables hydrolysis and conformational change, so dissolved material is kept refrigerated and used within a shorter window.
It belongs to the incretin mimetic class and acts as a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist. The class includes several peptides with different half-lives and routes of administration.
